White House Gives Federal Agencies 30 Days to Remove TikTok from Devices

The White House has issued a directive for federal agencies to remove TikTok from all government issued devices within 30 days.

All agencies, and those they contract with, must remove TikTok and any apps by its parent company, ByteDance, from government devices.

U.S. officials raised concerns last year that the Chinese government could pressure ByteDance to disclose user data collected on the apps that could be used for intelligence by the Chinese government. Though there is concern, there have not been any such reported incidents.

The removal order follows the compliance bill that was quickly passed last year and was included in the year-end omnibus spending package.
