Virgil Abloh and Nike are coming together once again. This time the collaborative effort is for a new book entitled ‘ICONS’ which is art directed and designed by Zak Group and published by TASCHEN. The new book is said to highlight the extensive process that went into the legendary making of “THE TEN”. The DIY approach that Virgil has taken throughout his design career will also be highlighted in the form of pictured text messages between Virgil and Nike designers, never-before-seen products from the Nike archives, which influenced the collaboration and more. Speaking about the book Virgil said
“The foundation of my practice isn’t nearly the end result — it’s rigor and process of the logic. The archive is the paper trail of those artifacts, the ICONS book is, in a way, the only revealing lens to understand that the catalog of the 50-plus Nike shoes I have designed are in my mind ‘one shoe.’ One story.”
ICONS will first be available in select Black-owned bookshops and independent retailers, before releasing through SNKRS in North America and Off-White™ and Canary Yellow on January 22. An even wider launch is scheduled for February 5 at TASCHEN.com and global retailers.
