UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman Looks to Fight Canelo Alvarez This Year

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has come out with a bold prediction for his next move in his career. Usman, who has defended his title in his last six bouts and is 15-0 in the UFC is looking to move into the boxing world to fight Canelo Alvarez. Alvarez has world championships in several weight divisions, with wins coming in Light Middleweight, Middleweight, Super Middleweight, and Light Heavyweight. Canelo also boasts a 57-1-2 (39 KO) record.

Usman is looking to do what Conor McGregor did in 2017 and transition into the boxing world and fight the sports best. He said in an interview in regards to Canelo saying,

“Absolutely I see myself winning the fight. Everything can’t be done until it’s done.”

Both Canelo and Usman have bouts before they can cement their bout. Canelo has a fight on May 7th with Dmitry Bivol for the WBA Super Light Heavyweight belt while Usman has to fight Leon Edwards to defend his title on July 2nd.

If both parties agree, the plan is for Usman and Canelo on Mexican Independence Day, September 16th.
