UEFA has declined a request from the mayor of Munich, Dieter Reiter, inquiring about the city’s stadium being lit up in rainbow colors for the Euro 2020 match on Wednesday between Germany and Hungary.
Major Dieter Reiter was inspired to celebrate Pride month through the city’s stadium after Hungary passed a law banning the “dissemination of content in schools deemed to promote homosexuality and gender change.”
In a statement UEFA explains why they declined the request stating, “UEFA, through its statutes, is a politically and religiously neutral organisation. Given the political context of this specific request — a message aiming at a decision taken by the Hungarian national parliament — UEFA must decline this request,”
