In the game of football, most of the games’ stars are in their mid to late 20s. Many say, “it’s a young man’s game”. While that is true, two quarterbacks have beaten the odds and “father-time”. Those two are Tom Brady and Drew Brees.
These two veteran QB’s are facing each other this Saturday in the NFC Divisional round and will be the oldest QB matchup in NFL history. They first faced off on September 29, 2002. Since then, they have combined for 27 Pro Bowls, four all-pros, and seven Super Bowls. They also rank #1 and #2 and all-time in passing touchdowns. Brady has 581 and Brees with 571, respectfully.
On the other side of the bracket, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen will matchup in the AFC Divisional. Those two will make up the youngest QB matchup in NFL history. Jackson and Allen, both in their third season, have lit up the NFL. Last season, Jackson set the record for most rushing yards by a QB (1,206). Lamar Jackson also was the youngest MVP in NFL History. This season, he became the first QB to rush for 1000 yards in consecutive. Josh Allen comes into the game as one of the most improved players in the NFL. Coming out of college, Allen was known for his arm talent and athleticism. But during his rookie season, he struggled. Allen only completed just 52% of his passes. He also threw just ten touchdowns and twelve interceptions. But this season, Allen has been one of the league’s best. Among QBs with at least 2,000 yards passing, Allen finished fourth in completion percentage with 69%. Josh Allen also said in an interview on the Pat Mcafee show he got his “throwing mechanics mapped”. He went back and altered his throwing motion and became one of the best young QBs in the NFL.
This weekend, we will see two of the greatest ever face off for what could be the last time against each other. We will also get a glimpse into the future of the NFL’s next generation of greatness for years to come.
