Thicc Burger Pop-Up Pays A Visit To Virginia

On a radiant Sunday morning in Norfolk, Virginia, My Mama’s Kitchen, well known for its exquisite soul food, hosted the famed “Thicc Burger” crew. Thicc Burger is a pop-up style restaurant originally founded in Los Angeles that has gained notoriety during their #thiccsummer burger tour this year. At their stop in Norfolk this past Sunday, 757 locals experienced first hand the menu the nation has been buzzing about. Food service began at 11 am and orders immediately hit a non-stop roll ultimately entirely selling out. It quickly became apparent that Thicc Burger would need to circulate back to town sometime in the future.

The Thicc Burger menu consists of incredible specialty burgers, of course, but also expands to other satisfying options like chicken sandwiches and street tacos. Their specialty burger, and most popular, item “The OG Thicc Burger” flew off the shelves. The burger features a 4 oz patty with caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, dill pickles, and their signature THICC sauce. A fast selling non-burger item was their “Hottie Biscuit” which featured a chicken breast covered in hot honey butter and topped with a a warm buttermilk biscuit.

We spoke to Chef Jay Wolfe about the Thicc Burger tour and how they came to Norfolk. “I’ve always wanted to do burgers,” said Wolfe. “The pandemic forced me to push it back, but now we’re on tour this summer and it worked!” The Thicc Burger Tour has now been to Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Norfolk, and Brooklyn in just a week. They are also opening a location in Atlanta as well. When we asked what made Thicc Burger come to Norfolk, Chef Jay mentioned the friendship with Jarrell from Nomarama. “I’ve been friends with Jarrell when he first started Nomarama, and it came full circle. He said “You’re doing a tour, I got this spot. Let’s collab!”
