Over the last few weeks, the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners have been rumored to leave the Big 12 and join the SEC. After a meeting Friday evening with SEC presidents and chancellors, they unanimously accepted the invitation to accept the two schools in the conference. The schools will have to finish their deals with the Big 12 before they join in 2025.
The SEC president, Greg Sankey released a statement saying “Today’s unanimous vote is both a testament to the SEC’s longstanding spirit of unity and mutual cooperation, as well as a recognition of the outstanding legacies of academic and athletic excellence established by the Universities of Oklahoma and Texas”.
