Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker tragically dies after being hit by vehicle

We are saddened by the news that boxing legend, Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker, 55, died after being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Northampton Boulevard and Baker Road. Born and raised in Norfolk, Only superseded by his amazing personality “Sweet Pea” had an amateur record of 201-14 with 91 knockouts before going professional and managing to finish his career with a 40-4 record holding the IBF Lightweight, WBC Lightweight, WBA Lightweight, IBF Light Welterweight, WBC Welterweight, WBA Light Middleweight all atleast once along with achieving a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family and loved ones.
