Miami Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross has been fined $1.5 million and docked two draft picks for tampering with Tom Brady and Sean Payton. The Dolphins will lose a 2023 1st-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick going forward. The NFL launched an investigation that lasted six months that unearthed evidence of Ross tampering with Tom Brady three times between 2019 and 2022. Ross also violated anti-tampering rules with the agent of former New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton in that period. Earlier this year, there were rumors of Brady leaving the Buccaneers to play in Miami and also have an ownership stake and/or executive role in the franchise, but once that plan was foiled, Brady then went back to Tampa Bay.
Former Dolphins coach Brian Flores also made accusations of Ross offering an alleged $100 thousand for every game Flores lost.
In addition to Ross being fined and the Dolphins losing draft picks, the NFL is suspending Stephen Ross until October 17th, which prevents him from entering Dolphins facilities or representing the team at any event.
