Mercedes Benz And Heron Preston Come Together To Celebrate 40 Years Of Airbags

In collaboration with Mercedes Benz, fashion designer Heron Preston has unveiled a collection paying homage to the creation of the airbag.

The airbag was first unveiled by Mercedes Benz in 1981 for their signature S class vehicle, and the release marks the 40 year anniversary of the invention.

Blending the line between innovation and fashion, the clothing is up cycled from crash test airbags from Mercedes Benz’s testing facility in Germany. According to Heron Preston, “The outerwear was created to functionally inflate and deflate with air on demand by lining them with an inflatable insulating system.”
