Kenzo Chooses NIGO As New Artistic Director

Wednesday morning LVMH announced that Kenzo had chosen 50 year old streetwear legend NIGO as their new Artistic Director. Most notably known for his founding of “A Bathing Ape” and “Human Made”, NIGO has been a staple in streetwear for the past three decades and now will become the first Japanese-born Artistic Director at Kenzo since Kenzo Takada resigned in 1999. In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, NIGO said “Takada’s approach to creating originality was through his understanding of many cultures. It is also the essence of my own philosophy of creativity. Inheriting the spirit of Kenzo san’s craftsmanship to create a new Kenzo is the greatest challenge of my 30-year career, which I intend to achieve with the team.” The role as Artistic Director will begin for NIGO September 20, 2021 and he will show his first collection for the brand in February 2022.
