HBO Max Teases “Winning Time” Series, Centered Around the Start of the Lakers Dynasty

In 1979, Dr. Jerry Buss bought the Los Angeles Lakers and became the teams owner. That same season, they drafted Earvin “Magic” Johnson with the first overall selection to be paired with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

For years after that, the Lakers became the golden standard for excellence in the NBA, winning 11 championships since then.

Now, coming to HBO Max, we will get an exclusive look on how the Lakers dynasty started. The series is based off of the book “Showtime” written by Jeff Pearlman. The show will give a look into how people like Magic Johnson, Pat Riley, Jerry Buss, Jeanie Buss and other key people played a key role into making the Lakers what they were. The series features star studded actors like Adrien Brody, John C. Reilly, and some direction from Jonah Hill.
