Getty Releases 30,000 Images of Black Diaspora

Getty images have released over 30,000 images of Black Diaspora dating back to the 19th century. Black Diaspora is the international community of people from Africa who were dispersed throughout the world, mainly in the United Kingdom and the United States.

The images take us on a journey through black history as we’ve never seen before. The collection will come in over 20 categories which include politics, sports, female empowerment, hair, and many more. The collection will be up for free use to help educators, content creators and researchers further tell the story of black history that hasn’t been told. Dr. Tukufu Zuberi and curator of the content and professor of sociology of race relations at the University of Pennsylvania made a statement saying, “The availability of new content representing black bodies, representing black spaces, representing black history across waters shows that even black people have been part of our history.”
