Athing Mu, a 19 year old athlete from Trenton, New Jersey has done something an American woman hasn’t done in 53 years. Mu ran a 1:55.21 in the finals in the 800m final to win gold, beating out fellow American Raevyn Rogers. Her 1:55.21 time is also an American record.

Mu spoke on her victory saying, “this isn’t the last time you’re going to see me run”. She continued, “One thing I will say for those people who are watching me for the first time, even for the people who have been watching me for the last couple years, my time is now.
