Alabama Dominates Ohio State in National Championship

This year’s National Championship seemed almost impossible to get to when the season began. Teams struggled with Covid-19 and trying to keep it out of their facilities. Some conferences played their entire schedule, but others only played a portion. Despite that, the two best teams came out on top to face each other in the National Championship. On one side, Alabama came into the game 12-0; on the other was Ohio State, who came in at 7-1. Both teams dominated in the National Semifinal, but who finished their season with a perfect record? Here’s a recap of the action.

First off, two words. Devonta Smith. The 2020-21 Heisman winner was absolutely unstoppable. In the first half, Smith had 12 receptions, 215 yards, and three touchdowns. I repeat that is only in ONE half of play. A hand injury was the only thing to derail Smith from putting up even more historical stats. His QB, and Heisman Finalist, Mac Jones, lit up Ohio States’ defense. Jones completed 36/45 passes for 464 yards, five touchdowns, and zero interceptions. The Alabama offense was clicking and firing on all cylinders.

For the Buckeyes, Alabama was just too overwhelming. They couldn’t sustain a good rhythm throughout the game. Ohio State was only 6/14 on third down and 0/2 on fourth down. Alabama’s defense also slowed down QB Justin Fields tremendously. Fields completed 17/33 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown. That’s a big drop off from his 385 yards six touchdown performance vs. Clemson.

The final score of the game was 52-24, and Alabama wins another National title.

Nick Saban, Alabama’s head coach, wins his sixth National Title since 2009. The Crimson Tide just keeps on rolling.
