The women’s national title game was legendary, both teams fought to the last second but one came out victorious. Here a full recap of the game.
Stanford came out in the first few possessions very comfortable, jumping out to a 12-3 lead. Arizona kept fighting through, and kept the game within striking distance. At halftime, Stanford led 31-24, but the best was yet to come.
In the second half, Haley Jones and Lexie Hull did there best to keep the lead and fight off Arizona, but Aari McDonald willed her team back. McDonald knocked down two three pointers down the stretch for Arizona to bring the game back to a one possession deficit. In the last five minutes of the game, Stanford’s offense only scored one field goal. A mix of great defense and turnovers help Arizona claw there way back. With 5.5 to go, Stanford gave the ball back to Arizona, after turning the ball over on a shot clock violation. Aari McDonald took the inbounds and tried to probe for a shot. Stanford double teamed at the top of the key as McDonald shot a turn around, which barely missed. Stanford won the game on a final score of 54-53, winning there first National Title since 1992. Haley Jones led Stanford with 17 points and eight rebounds.
