Colin Kaepernick, Ben & Jerry’s Partner Up For Vegan Pint Of Ice Cream Promoting Activism

Colin Kaepernick has been a face for activism in recent years — whether it be his donations, taking a knee or just promoting social justice, Kaepernick has been active every step of the way. Thursday morning, a new horizon for activism was announced involving Kaepernick, this time in the form of Ice Cream. That’s right ! the former NFL quarterback and notable Ice Cream company Ben & Jerry’s announced they would be partnering up for a new “Change The Whirled” vegan flavor which contains caramel, with fudge chips and swirls of graham crackers and chocolate cookies. Speaking about the collaboration, Chris Miller, Ben & Jerry’s head of global activism strategy told USA TODAY

“That very much is our approach, this idea we can help normalize and reinforce these ideas to a more mainstream, general population audience, it’s not a particularly radical notion to suggest that police forces and policing probably are not the best way to handling things like mental health crises and substance abuse, and contextualize them for people what a different vision of public safety looks like, but we sit in a unique place where, I think, we’re able to do some of that work that speaks to this more mainstream audience.”

Kaepernick’s “Change the Whirled” flavor will be a full-time flavor, available in grocery stores and at Ben & Jerry’s shops beginning in 2021. Kaepernick has pledged to donate his portion of the proceeds to his Know Your Rights Camp, which aims to “advance the liberation and well-being of Black and brown communities.”
