In 2010, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics for the NBA championship. In 2013, the Lakers made the Playoffs for the last time before going on a six year drought. In 2020, that all changed
The Los Angeles Lakers outlasted the Miami Heat in Game 6 in dominating fashion. The Lakers hit the ground running and dominated the first half on offense and defense. Los Angeles held Miami to 34% shooting in the first half, while Los Angeles shot 54%. The Laker lead even ballooned to as much as 30 points in the first half. The Heat battled back in the second half, but the deficit was just too big. The Lakers clinched their 17th championship with a 106-93 win over the Heat.
LeBron James dominated, finishing with 28 points, 14 rebounds, and ten assists on 65% shooting from the field. Anthony Davis scored 19 points and 14 rebounds, but the Lakers’ unsung hero was “Playoff” Rondo. The veteran PG scored 13 points in the first half with a perfect 6-6 from the field, off of the bench, I might add.
There weren’t too many bright spots in the game for Miami, aside from Bam Adebayo’s 25 points and ten rebounds. But the experience for this young team will be extremely valuable. The Miami Heat beat the odds by defeating the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics en route to the Finals and pushed the Lakers to six games when many thought they would get swept.
In the end, LeBron James won his fourth Finals MVP by averaging 29.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists.
