NFL Week 1 Recap
The first Sunday of the NFL started with a bang. There are a lot of new faces in places. Here’s a recap of the slate of Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season.
The Arizona Cardinals defeat the Super Bowl runner up San Francisco 49ers 24-20. DeAndre Hopkins made his Cardinals debut with 14 receptions for 151 yards.
Tom Brady’s Buccaneers debut spoiled by Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. New Orleans won 34-23 over Tampa Bay. Brady threw for 239 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions (first multiple interception game since the 2018 AFC Championship game).
Los Angeles Chargers defeat Cincinnati Bengals 16-13. #1 Overall pick of the 2020 draft QB Joe Burrow had on rushing touchdown for 23 yards in his NFL debut.
Baltimore Ravens dominate the Cleveland Browns 38-6. The 2020 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson finished with an efficient 275 yards, three touchdowns on 20/25 attempts (80% completion.)
Jacksonville Jaguars, led by Gardner Minshew, defeat the Indianapolis Colts 27-20. Minshew finished with 173 yards, three touchdowns while only having one incompletion (19/20).
Las Vegas Raiders halt Christian McCaffrey and the Carolina Panthers 34-30. Josh Jacobs ran for 93 yards, and three touchdowns on 25 carries to lead the Raiders to victory.
The Washington Football team score 27 unanswered to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 27-17. The Football Team had eight total sacks, led by two from veteran Ryan Kerrigan. #2 Overall Pick also had 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
Cam Newton’s New England debut ends in a 21-11 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Newton threw for 155 yards and ran for 75 more, scoring two touchdowns with his legs.
Green Bay Packers hold up the Minnesota Viking’s 24 point 4th quarter in a 43-34 victory. Aaron Rodgers blazed the Vikings defense for 364 yards and four touchdowns. Devante Adams had a career-high 14 receptions for 156 yards and two touchdowns for the Packers.
Mitch Truibsky led Chicago to 21 unanswered points in the 4th quarter as the Bears comeback to defeat the Detroit Lions 27-23. He finished with 242 yards and three touchdowns.
The Buffalo Bills defeat the New York Jets 27-17 behind 312 passing yards and two touchdowns from Josh Allen. New acquisition Stefon Diggs caught eight balls for 86 yards in the win.
Seattle Seahawks overcame a shootout over the Atlanta Falcons behind Russell Wilsons 31/35 attempt (88%), 322 yards, and four touchdown clinic. The final score was 38-25 in favor of the Seahawks. Matt Ryan also threw for 450 yards (54 Pass attempts) while also having three different Wide Receivers over 100 yards.
Los Angeles Rams defense hold off Dallas Cowboys 20-17. Jared Goff led the Rams offense with 275 yards passing while Malcolm Brown rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns.
Tonight on ESPN, Monday Night Football hosts a doubleheader with the Steelers traveling to New York to face the Giants at 7:15 pm ET. It will also be the return of Ben Rothlisberger after missing 14 games with an elbow injury. Joe Judge will make his NFL coaching debut for the New York Giants as well.
Then at 10:10 pm ET, the Denver Broncos face off against the Tennessee Titans in Mile High Stadium. The Broncos will be without their franchise cornerstone and Hall of Famer Von Miller, as he went down with an ankle injury five days ago. Denver’s defense will miss his presence against the 2020 NFL rushing leader Derrick Henry and Tennessee’s power rushing attack.
