Jay-Z came through on Thursday, June 4th when Ahmaud Arbery’s family attorney needed it most. S. Lee Merritt and Blerim Elmazi of Philadelphia’s Merritt Law Firm credited Jay-Z with saving the day for them on Thursday when they were prompted to stand with the Arbery family for a probable-cause hearing for the three men charged in Arbery’s death. Father and son Gregory and Travis McMichael have been charged with murder and aggravated assault, while William “Roddie” Bryan Jr., who filmed the video of Arbery’s shooting, faces a felony murder charge. The two attorney’s said in an instagram post
“Court hearing in Brunswick, Georgia this morning. No flights to take us there last night. @leemerrittesq and I spent hours trying to find flights or cars. At 1 am we started losing hope till we got a call from Jay Z’s people at Roc Nation who chartered a flight for us to attend this hearing with the family of Ahmaud Arbery,” he wrote. Thankful for their support.”
Jay-Z charted a private flight for the two attorney’s to make it to Brunswick, Georgia, as pictured below Roc Nation also provided them with red “Legal Observer” shirts. Those are two of the 2,000 reported red “Legal Observer” shirts Roc Nation has purchased and will be providing throughout the country. What is a “Legal Observer” exactly ? Legal Observers are trained volunteers who support the legal rights of activists. They provide basic legal guidance and are independent witnesses of police behavior at protests.
