The NCAA’s top governing body said today that they are supporting a proposal to allow college athletes to sign endorsement contracts and receive payment for other work, provided that the schools they attend are not involved in any of the payments. This move would allow student-athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness beginning in 2021-22. Board chairperson Michael Drake said in a release this morning “Allowing promotions and third-party endorsements is uncharted territory.”
It seems the NCAA is finally prepared to take a step to getting student-athletes the endorsements and payouts many feel they have been deserving of for quite some time. Stay tuned for more information soon.
