Kim Jones Confirms Shawn Stussy Will Come Out Of Retirement For Dior Collaboration

It has been confirmed, Shawn Stussy will come out of retirement to work with Kim Jones for the Dior Pre-Fall 2020 show in Miami December 3rd. The collaboration comes somewhat as a surprise due to previous rumors of a possible Jordan x Dior collaboration for this same Pre-Fall show. Kim Jones, became the creative director of Dior Homme replacing Kris Van Assche back in March 2018 and since the acquisition Dior has seen collaborations with KAWS, Daniel Arsham, Raymond Pettibon and now none other than the legendary brand Stüssy. Shawn Stussy told WWD “I was just in a good place in my adventure, and he’s in a good place, and the stars just seemed to kind of line up. And if I’m going to come out for a last hurrah, why not with Dior? That’s the way I look at it. It’s the very top of the top. I have nothing but respect.” This marks Shawn Stussy’s first return since leaving the very brand he founded back in 1996. When asked about why he chose Stüssy, Kim Jones told WWD “I used to wear it head-to-toe all the time in my teens. It was something I was really, really, really obsessed by. I’ve still got boxes of it. For me to work with someone like Shawn is a real honor. He’s an artist, that’s the thing. If you can work that line like that, and it’s that memorable, it’s like an artist. That’s why I wanted to do it with him: he’s made an iconic image with his hand.” 2020 will mark the 40 year anniversary of Stüssy, which couldn’t be a better time for the soon to be legendary collaboration with Dior to go on sale. Dior’s Pre-Fall 2020 menswear collection will be shown on December 3 across from the new Rubell Museum.
